House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III on Monday played down the impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“We see no basis to justify the impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr. Our President is clearly fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him by the people, in accordance with the law,” Dy said in mixed Filipino and English.
Nevertheless, he said the House will fulfill its mandate to act on and thoroughly study the complaint.
The House leader has since warned that impeachment must not be used as a tool for politicking.
“The matter of impeachment is not a joke. It is a serious and thorough process. It is the responsibility of the House of Representatives, according to the Constitution, to accept and examine such grievances—and this should be done with utmost care and respect for the Constitution. It should not be used for politicization and cause disunity,” Dy said.
“When the session reopens, the House is focused on passing meaningful laws that will truly elevate the lives of the Filipino people,” he concluded.
