An unidentified remnant of a red group was killed in an encounter with the troops of the Army’s 12th Infantry “Lick ‘Em” Battalion on December 28, 2024, at Sitio Naatip, Barangay Lahug, Tapaz, Capiz.
According to the Philippine Army, the encounter occurred while the troops were responding to reports from the local populace about the presence of armed rebels in the area.
The Philippine Army also stated that this quick action by the troops resulted in a 30-minute firefight in the late afternoon against approximately ten remnants of the Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG) and Central Front (CF) Weakened (W) Komiteng Rehiyon—Panay.
After the encounter, the enemy withdrew and scattered in different directions, leaving behind their dead comrade.
Additionally, one rifle and five backpacks were seized from the encounter site.
In his message, MGen Marion Sison, the Commander of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, lauded the bravery and vigilance of the troops for their mission to ensure peace and security for the people of Panay.
MGen Sison also remarked that the recent encounter serves as a reminder of the Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the freedom and security of the people in Western and Central Visayas.
“Your actions reflect the highest standards of service and integrity, reinforcing our steadfast resolve to bring lasting peace to our communities,” said MGen Sison.
MGen Sison urged the local populace to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting any suspicious activities by enemies that threaten their safety, especially during this holiday season.
