Five members of the Duterte dynasty led by former president Rodrigo Duterte filed their respective certificates of candidacy (COC) for various local government positions, one day before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) deadline.
The Dutertes submitted their COCs around 4:00 PM at the Comelec satellite office in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.
The Duterte patriarch is running for Davao City mayor with his youngest son, Sebastian, as vice mayor. Eldest son, Paolo, is seeking re-election as first district representative.
Paolo’s eldest son, Omar Vincent, vies to represent the second district of Davao City. His other son, Rodrigo III or ‘Rigo,’ already filed his COC last week for councilor.
The Dutertes are running under the local party Hugpong ng Taong Lungsod (HTL) with their ally Isidro Ungab also seeking a congressional seat representing the third district of Davao City.
Four independent candidates also filed their COCs on Monday to challenge the Duterte father-and-son tandem for the top two local government positions.
They are Rodolfo Cubos and Rowena Caballes, who are running for mayor, and vice mayor candidates Rhodora Barcena and Richard Alcebar.
