The suspect, Police Staff Sgt. Bonifacio Saycon, allegedly shot Dinaonao at a restaurant bar at around 9:35 p.m. for still unknown reasons, according to police.

When responding officers arrested Saycon and were transporting him to the police station, he allegedly opened fire inside the vehicle, killing the three officers. He fled but later surrendered at the Tanjay City Police Station and turned over his service firearm.

PRO-Negros Island Region Director Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas said a special investigation team has been formed to thoroughly and impartially determine the motive and circumstances behind the incident.
