Suspects in viral BGC pickpocketing arrested

Taguig City Police Station (TCPS) chief Col. Byron Allatog on Wednesday confirmed that the two individuals arrested for illegal gambling and possession of dangerous drugs in Barangay Fort Bonifacio are the same persons identified in a viral social media video showing an alleged pickpocketing incident in Bonifacio Global City.

The suspects, Junmar Tenio and John Michael Villaruel, were apprehended by personnel of Sub-Station 1 during a routine foot patrol after they were caught engaging in illegal gambling, locally known as cara y cruz.

A lawful body search incidental to the arrest led to the recovery of two sachets of suspected shabu with a combined weight of about 3.21 grams.

Charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 on illegal gambling and Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 are now being processed.

Police said the victim in the viral pickpocketing incident has been contacted and is coordinating with investigators for the filing of an additional theft complaint, as authorities continue validating evidence and reviewing digital footage to ensure due process.
