The Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested two people for alleged bribery in exchange for the withdrawal of their testimonies in connection with the “missing sabungeros” case.
According to PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Major Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II, the operation stemmed from the request for assistance of a relative of one of the victims, who currently stands as a complainant in the case.
An entrapment operation was immediately conducted, which resulted in the arrest of the suspects—a male and a female—after the turnover of bribe money.
According to the complainant, the two suspects offered a huge sum of cash in exchange for their affidavit of recantation and desistance against key personalities and other respondents charged in the “missing sabungeros” case.
PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. lauded the CIDG for the successful conduct of the operation, which occurred at about 11:00 a.m. on September 15 in Barangay Dolores, Taytay, Rizal.
