Olivarez honors Parañaque firefighters

PARAÑAQUE CITY—Mayor Edwin L. Olivarez on Monday honored local firefighters and volunteers while unveiling expanded fire safety support, including plans for a new fire substation, during the Bureau of Fire Protection–Parañaque City’s culminating activity for National Women’s Month and Fire Prevention Month.

The event, held at the Barangay San Dionisio Sports Complex, gathered BFP personnel led by City Fire Marshal Liher L. Barrios, barangay officials headed by Eva Olivarez, and community volunteers.

In his message, Olivarez underscored the dual significance of March as both National Women’s Month and Fire Prevention Month and highlighted the vital role of preparedness and the contributions of women in public service.

Olivarez said March is not only a time to recognize the role of women in society but also a reminder of the importance of preparedness and safety in communities.

“This month is not only an opportunity to recognize the contributions of women in our society. It is also a reminder of the importance of preparedness and safety in our community,” he said.

He also commended the BFP’s continuous efforts in awareness campaigns and emergency response.

“In both occasions, we have witnessed the dedication of women and the entire BFP, who work tirelessly to serve the public and ensure everyone’s safety—from awareness campaigns to responding to emergency situations,” he added.

In a major development, Olivarez announced that a new BFP substation will be constructed this year in Aseana City, Barangay Tambo.

The facility will rise beside the BFP satellite office in the area to help speed up emergency response, particularly in the fast-growing Aseana district.

Once completed, the Aseana fire substation will become the sixth fire station in Parañaque City, further strengthening the city’s disaster response network.

Olivarez also thanked firefighters and volunteers, describing their service as a reflection of compassion and integrity as they risk their lives daily to ensure public safety.

To further boost operations, the city government has deployed an additional 19 new fire aides to improve response time and manpower.

Five additional fire trucks have also been procured, with dedicated funding for their maintenance to ensure continuous service.

The mayor added that allowances and fuel assistance are being provided to support daily operations, alongside sustained fire prevention campaigns to educate communities on safety measures.

“These programs are testaments to the city government and BFP’s unwavering commitment to ensure every Parañaqueño is safe and prepared,” Olivarez said, stressing that safety is a shared responsibility between authorities and residents.

He also highlighted the increasing participation of women in the BFP, noting their growing presence in both frontline and leadership roles.

“I also want to emphasize the importance of women’s empowerment in the BFP. We are pleased to see that many women are now actively participating in the agency—from firefighting activities to leadership roles,” Olivarez told female personnel.

“Your courage and determination are an inspiration,” he added.

Olivarez assured the BFP of continued support, vowing to further strengthen programs that promote a safer and more resilient Parañaque City.

The ceremony marked the culmination of this year’s National Women’s Month and Fire Prevention Month observance, with officials calling for sustained vigilance and community cooperation in disaster preparedness.

“Let us continue to serve as an inspiration and protection for every Parañaqueño,” Olivarez said.
