Castro slams Davila remarks on flood control probe as ‘unfair’

MALACAñANG press officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro on Friday hit back at TV host Karen Davila for allegedly fomenting fake and misleading information that could deceive the public.

Castro was reacting to Davila’s suggestions that the government has already “forgotten” the flood control controversy.

Castro described Davila’s comments as “unfair” and “irresponsible,” warning that such statements were tantamount to “fake news” and risk misleading the public.

Castro said the newscaster’s allegations during a recent interview were not only “inaccurate but could also be construed as false information.”

“I heard the interview where she claimed the government has forgotten the flood control scandal.. So that’s an irresponsible statement,” Castro told television/radio host Alvin Elchico over dzMM.

She said it was misleading to suggest that the issue had been set aside.

Castro stressed that investigations into alleged irregularities in flood control projects were ongoing, with both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of the Ombudsman continuing their work.

She cited recent developments, noting that authorities have already taken concrete steps in the probe.

The Palace official also scored Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco who echoed the sentiment that accountability now hinges on Vice President Sara Z. Duterte.

She maintained that accountability should not depend on any single official, adding that even before assuming higher office, Duterte could have already acted on the issue.

“That’s why right now, even if she were not the Vice President, she should look at the flood control projects during the watch of her father,” Castro said.

“Why” Because it’s been admitted that there were ghost projects at the time. Why doesn’t she start investigating now,” Castro noted.

She asserted that the government’s investigative mechanisms are active and functioning, urging caution against sweeping claims that could erode public trust in ongoing accountability efforts.
