LA TRINIDAD, Benguet—The provincial Government of Benguet is expanding dialysis services in district hospitals while strengthening its preventive health campaign as kidney disease cases continue to rise in the province and are increasingly being recorded among younger patients.
In an interview on March 13, 2026, Governor Melchor Daguines Diclas said the province aims to establish dialysis units in all district hospitals to bring treatment closer to patients, particularly those in remote municipalities.
Diclas said the province is prioritizing district hospitals in areas with limited access to dialysis services so that patients will no longer need to converge in La Trinidad and Baguio City for treatment.
He said Benguet General Hospital now has 20 dialysis units after the provincial government installed ten units in 2022 and added another ten in 2025.
The governor said the province also opened a dialysis unit in 2025 at the Dennis Molintas District Hospital in Daclan, Bokod, with seven machines under a P14.5-million allocation. Of the total amount, P4 million was allotted for the facility, while P10.5 million covered the dialysis machines, onsite calibration, preventive maintenance, and the hiring and training of personnel. The unit serves patients from Bokod, Kabayan, and nearby municipalities.
He added that Atok District Hospital opened a five-unit dialysis facility in March 2026 with an allocated fund of P11 million, including P4 million for the renovation of the facility and P7 million for the procurement of dialysis machines, other essential requirements, and the hiring and training of personnel. The facility is expected to serve patients from Atok, Buguias, Kibungan, and nearby communities.
Diclas said the next district hospital being eyed for a dialysis unit is Northern Benguet District Hospital in Abatan, Buguias, which is expected to serve patients from Mankayan, Buguias, and Bakun. He added that Kapangan District Hospital is also among the province’s next targets for dialysis expansion.
