Philippines to mark Eid’l Fitr 2026 on March 21 after no moon sighting

Bangsamoro Grand Mufti Abdulrauf Guialani on Thursday evening announced that Eid’l Fitr will be observed on Saturday after the crescent moon was not sighted.

The announcement follows reports from Bangsamoro Darul Ifta (BDI) monitoring teams, deployed in strategic locations across the region, which confirmed no sighting of the Shawwal crescent.

“I…hereby announce that the crescent moon was not sighted today. Therefore, Eid’l Fitr and the first day of Shawwal will be on Saturday, March 21, 2026, In Shaa Allah,” Sheikh Guialani declared, confirming the completion of 30 days of Ramadan.

Led by the BDI, the moon-sighting activity on March 19 is a key religious undertaking to determine the end of Ramadan and the start of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.

Muslim Filipinos nationwide are now expected to prepare for Eid’l Fitr, marked by congregational prayers, acts of charity, and family gatherings.

Eid’l Fitr is one of the two major Islamic feasts, alongside Eid’l Adha, signifying the culmination of a month of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.
