OTS installs 2 more x-rays for explosives at NAIA-3

The Office for Transportation Security has successfully delivered and begun the installation of two additional Explosive Detection System (EDS) X-ray machines at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.

This initiative enhances the ability of OTS Security Screening Officers to identify improvised explosive devices and other prohibited items within the airport terminal, thereby increasing security measures and ensuring passenger safety.

OTS Administrator Gilbert Cruz said the enhancement is intended to reinforce strict adherence to standard operating procedures, eliminate identified security vulnerabilities, and ensure the integrity of the screening process in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure passenger safety, security, convenience, and confidence in the transportation system.

Prior to installation, the equipment underwent inspection and quantity verification in accordance with applicable government procurement and acceptance procedures.

Upon operationalization, the EDS X-ray machines will be deployed at airport security checkpoints to provide enhanced imaging capabilities capable of automatically detecting, analyzing, and flagging potential explosive threats in cabin baggage while facilitating a more efficient passenger screening process.

The procurement and installation of the additional EDS units form part of the agency’s continuing efforts to enhance aviation security capabilities, improve screening efficiency, and ensure sustained compliance with national and international aviation security standards.
