Authorities arrested two Filipinos who allegedly attempted to rescue two Chinese nationals linked to a speedboat carrying sacks of suspected illegal drugs discovered along the shoreline of Barangay Harrison in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro.
According to Col. Michael Aquino, spokesperson of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, troops noticed a speedboat circling the area even before the arrest of the two Chinese nationals.
Aquino said soldiers guarding the area approached the suspicious vessel since the location had already been secured by authorities.
The two Filipinos, reportedly from Nasugbu, Batangas, allegedly admitted during questioning that they were sent by an individual from Batangas whom they believed to be the owner of the aground speedboat.
Authorities declined to reveal the identity of the person who allegedly ordered the rescue attempt, citing an ongoing investigation. The suspects were later turned over to law enforcement agencies for investigation and legal processing. Aquino said the two Filipinos are now in police custody.
