The Archdiocese of Manila has urged parishes, schools, and church-run institutions to strengthen fire safety measures as the country observes Fire Prevention Month in March.
In a circular, the archdiocese directed communities under its jurisdiction to conduct fire safety inspections and remain vigilant against possible fire incidents, especially as church facilities regularly host large gatherings of worshippers, students, and workers.
Vicar General Reginald Malicdem called on parish priests, school heads, and administrators to review emergency protocols, inspect electrical systems, and coordinate with local authorities when necessary to ensure preparedness.
The directive also included a safety checklist covering the proper management of candles, electrical wiring, and public gatherings inside church premises.
Malicdem said these measures are essential to prevent accidents and protect the thousands of people who visit churches and church-run institutions daily, adding that fire prevention should be viewed as a responsibility to safeguard the community.
March is observed nationwide as Fire Prevention Month, a campaign aimed at raising public awareness and encouraging safety practices to reduce fire hazards.
