The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah has advised Filipino Umrah pilgrims departing from the Philippines to exercise caution and closely follow local advisories amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In its latest advisory, the consulate urged travelers to monitor official updates from the consulate, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), and the Office of the Hajj Attaché.
Pilgrims were reminded to ensure they have complete travel documents, including a valid passport, Umrah visa, and the contact details of their travel agent or group leader.
An Umrah visa allows Muslims to undertake the minor pilgrimage outside of Hajj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage required of all able Muslims.
The consulate also advised travelers to regularly check their flight status with airlines, travel agencies, or official airport websites to avoid inconvenience from possible cancellations or delays.
Over the weekend, parts of Middle Eastern airspace were temporarily closed following military exchanges involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Pilgrims were further urged to avoid unnecessary large gatherings, comply with regulations set by local authorities, and maintain communication with their families and travel coordinators.
The consulate, together with the NCMF and the Office of the Hajj Attaché, reiterated its readiness to assist Filipinos in Saudi Arabia and provide updated information as the situation develops.
