INC revives calls for accountability in flood control corruption

Religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) on Friday issued a statement renewing calls for accountability over corruption in the country’s flood control projects.

INC spokesperson Edwil Zabala said that since the group conducted its Rally for Transparency, Accountability, Justice, and Peace from Nov. 16 to 17, 2025, it continues to wait for how the government will address what it described as widespread corruption.

“More than three months have passed, but citizens still cannot see any solution to the large-scale theft from our nation’s coffers,” Zabala said in Filipino during a video statement.

“And instead of pursuing the ones responsible, those who are giving information and testifying against them are the ones being persecuted and pressured. This is why until now we have yet to trace the more than P1 trillion allocated to flood control projects and other public works,” he added.

The INC spokesperson likewise questioned the status of ongoing investigations into the flood control anomalies.

“Filipinos are waiting for what the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman said, ‘We will go where the evidence lead us.’ Now there are statements coming out that among those involved are individuals who sent out suitcases of money, and recently it was proved that former soldiers admitted they delivered these. How come there is no clear step toward expanding and finishing the investigation?” Zabala said.

“Our call remains clear. Expose the whole truth, hold the right people accountable, and promote justice in order to return the country’s trust and forward the real and lasting peace and advancement of the Philippines,” he concluded.
