Kerstin death toll now at 64 and counting

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) divers have retrieved two more bodies from the wreckage of the passenger ferry M/V Trisha Kerstin 3 which capsized off Basilan Island last Jan. 26.

The latest recoveries brought to 64 the number of fatalities in the sea tragedy, with 293 survivors and 15 passengers still missing.

Meanwhile, acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said criminal and administrative charges would be filed against the Aleson Shipping Line, the operator of the sunken vessel, as well as some executives of the Maritime Industry Authority.

The search operations were launched after the MV Trisha Kerstin 3 sank shortly after leaving Zamboanga City for Jolo, Sulu. Over 300 passengers and crew were aboard the vessel.
