DSWD-7 launches safer net campaign

CEBU CITY— The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 7 launched the “Safer Internet Campaign 2026,” highlighting the responsible use of artificial intelligence, on Feb. 9 during its weekly convocation.

DSWD-7 Regional Director Shalaine Lucero said the agency continues to monitor and respond to reports of online sexual abuse or exploitation of children and the spread of child sexual abuse or exploitation materials. She urged parents to take an active role in ensuring the safe and responsible use of the internet.

Lucero said the office is strengthening the implementation of laws and policies promoting responsible internet use to protect children in Central Visayas, emphasizing the critical role of parents as primary guardians.

She noted that Proclamation No. 417, s. 2018 declares the second Tuesday of February as Safer Internet Day for Children in the Philippines. DSWD serves as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking–Violence Against Women and Their Children-7 and chair of the Regional Council for the Welfare of Children.

Children Sector Focal Person Ligaya Dael said the month-long campaign features webinars on internet safety until Feb. 26, the campaign’s culmination, to promote a safer digital environment and strengthen awareness of online protection mechanisms.
