Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla on Thursday dismissed the claim of Senator Imee Marcos that charges will be filed on January 15 against Senators Joel Villanueva and Jinggoy Estrada, and former Senator Bong Revilla over alleged flood control anomalies.
In his first press briefing this year, Remulla said his office would refrain from identifying individuals and setting dates, assuring the public that work is ongoing to ensure justice.
“We have no updates yet on specific cases, but things are moving smoothly. The work continues on a daily basis, and we intend to keep it that way for the next seven years,” he said.
The Ombudsman declined to mention names, explaining that doing so has been misinterpreted in the past, adding that his office has learned from experience.
“We cannot give any dates or commitments. You see us here every day to make sure that justice is obtained by the Filipino people,” he said.
In November, Remulla said high-ranking individuals would soon be charged and that warrants of arrest might be issued before Christmas.
He earlier said warrants against Senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Joel Villanueva, and Jinggoy Estrada, as well as former Senators Bong Revilla and Nancy Binay, could be available by December 15.
Among those undergoing preliminary investigation before the Department of Justice are Revilla, Estrada, and Villanueva.
Remulla added that two more individuals, one senator and one former senator, are also being looked into.
