Ashfall attributed to Mayon Volcano, which remains under Alert Level 3 (high level of volcanic unrest), was reported in parts of Albay on Thursday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed the incident as reported by people on the ground.
In a message to members of the media, Phivolcs noted that traces of ashfall were observed in Brgy. Busay, Daraga while light dusting was experienced in Barangays San Francisco and Travesia in Guinobatan. Other areas are still for verification.
The Philippine Red Cross earlier posted photographs from its staff of the ashfall seen in Legazpi City and the municipality of Daraga.
It reminded the public to stay at home, as well as to wear masks and long sleeves to prevent skin irritation and respiratory problems caused by ashfall.
Camalig Mayor Caloy Baldo similarly reported ashfall in several barangays in the municipality due to volcanic activity.
He also advised his constituents to take precautionary measures amid the reported ashfall.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) assured readiness to provide medical supplies for the protection of affected residents amid the ongoing Mayon unrest.
These include 29,682 boxes of surgical masks, 2,500 water containers, 1,000 tablets of Aquatabs, and one water tanker.
The DOH will also deliver medicines for cough, colds and fever, as well as maintenance medicines and hygiene kits. These health deliverables will be served to 3,500 individuals affected by Mayon’s activity.
The department said it will continue to coordinate with the LGUs affected by the situation.
