The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Wednesday summoned the son of automotive journalist-vlogger James Deakin to appear in a hearing at its central office in Quezon City on January 12 to explain why he should not be held accountable for reckless driving.
LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said Deakin’s son, Daniel, committed reckless driving for crossing a double solid lane along the Skyway and for driving an unregistered vehicle.
Lacanilao presented a video footage of the lane violation on December 18, 2025, saying the younger Deakin was just able to present a sales invoice from the importer to the dealer, and not from the dealer to the buyer.
Daniel failed to show an official receipt/certificate of registration, too, according to the LTO chief.
“So, technically, the vehicle did not have papers. The document they presented is from the importer to the dealer. What does it mean? It has not yet been sold to a buyer, and that it should not be driven on the road,” Lacanilao said.
Driving an unregistered vehicle is reckless driving, he pointed out.
The elder Deakin, on his Facebook page, said the reckless driving citation issued to his son from lane violation went too far.
The LTO gave Daniel five days to challenge the violation issued against him but he failed to file an appeal within the said period.
