The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) assured the public of heightened security and full preparations for the Feast of the Black Nazarene, as millions of devotees are expected to join the annual Traslacion on Friday, January 9.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Wednesday that security measures are in place in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure a peaceful, safe, and meaningful religious event.
“According to the police report, up to 18,212 uniformed personnel will be deployed to the locations where the Poong Nazareno Feast will be held,” Castro said.

“The devotees participating in the Traslacion can expect an increased police presence and visibility, especially in three major areas – at Quirino Grandstand, along the entire route of the procession, and at Quiapo Church, the final destination of the Poong Nazareno image,” she added.
For added security, the police will enforce no-fly zones and deploy cell phone signal jammers near Traslacion areas, according to Castro.
The DILG, meanwhile, reminded participants to remain alert and to avoid bringing prohibited items, including sharp objects, fireworks and pyrotechnic devices, glass containers, and other items that may cause harm.
Authorities also reiterated that carrying firearms and other weapons is strictly prohibited under the gun ban currently in effect in Manila.
On Tuesday, Malacañang has declared January 9, 2026, a special nonworking day in the city of Manila to ensure the orderly observance of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
The Manila city government has also suspended classes at all levels and work in local government offices on that day.
The annual Traslacion commemorates the transfer of the revered image of the Black Nazarene and is considered one of the largest religious gatherings in the country.
