The Philippines, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), urged all parties involved to seek peaceful solutions to the tensions arising from reports of a large-scale military operation conducted by the United States, which resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
In a statement on Sunday, January 4, DFA spokesperson Angelica Escalona said that the Philippines is also closely monitoring the evolving situation.
“The Philippines is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Venezuela,” she said.
She emphasized the importance of peaceful resolution, urging concerned parties to settle disputes amicably and to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
“The Philippines urges concerned parties to resolve disputes through peaceful means, and to exercise restraint to prevent escalation of conflict,” she added.
For its part, the Philippine Embassy in Bogotá, which acts as a non-resident mission for Venezuela, has issued a travel and safety advisory for Filipinos residing in Venezuela.
According to DFA records, there are currently 74 Filipinos living in Venezuela.
To recall, on Saturday, January 3, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that the U.S. successfully carried out a strike that led to the removal of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, from power in Venezuela.
