Three rescued Filipino fishers return home

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) announced that the three Filipino fisherfolk recently rescued by a United States Navy vessel have safely returned home.

The PCG facilitated the turnover of the three fishermen, who were rescued by the USNS Cesar Chavez (T-AKE 14) about 50 nautical miles west of Bolinao, Pangasinan, on January 1.

The rescued individuals were identified as Michael Lebios, Michael John Lebios, and Lorjun Lupague, all residents of Sitio Pocdol, Barangay Cato, Infanta, Pangasinan.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has since underscored the importance of strong partnerships and shared commitments with international counterparts in ensuring maritime safety and responding to emergencies at sea, the PCG said.

The turnover took place at Riviera Pier in Olongapo City, Zambales, where the PCG, together with the Infanta Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, provided medical assistance to the fishermen. Authorities confirmed that all three were in good physical condition.

“They were subsequently transported to their residences to reunite with their families,” the PCG said.

It expressed gratitude to the crew of the USNS Cesar Chavez for their timely humanitarian assistance, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the safety and welfare of Filipino fisherfolk at sea.
