Manila Mayor Francisco Moreno Domagoso on Tuesday said the Manila Police District is investigating how a minor obtained an illegal firecracker involved in a recent deadly incident.
Domagoso said police are tracing the source of the prohibited item to determine accountability, particularly among sellers, and warned that violators will face arrest and criminal charges.
He added that city hospitals, emergency medical services, and the Bureau of Fire Protection remain on heightened alert to respond to possible firecracker-related injuries.
Meanwhile, Manila Department of Social Welfare head Jay Dela Fuente said the city provided ₱25,000 financial assistance, burial support, and psychosocial services to the family of the deceased minor.
The city government also covered hospital expenses and provided ₱10,000 assistance to another injured minor, as authorities vowed to intensify campaigns against illegal firecrackers.
