Barzaga deletes inappropriate social media posts

Cavite 4th District Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga deleted posts and photos of lewd material and lavish displays of wealth from his personal social media account, complying with a 24-hour directive issued by the House ethics panel on Monday night, December 1.

During a House session on the same day, 249 lawmakers voted in favor of adopting the committee’s recommendations, with only five dissenting votes and 11 abstentions.

A report from the House ethics committee listed 24 Facebook links to Barzaga’s posts that were deemed inappropriate.

“The committee recommends a 60-day suspension from office without pay or allowances during this period. Furthermore, Barzaga has been issued a stern warning that any repetition of similar misconduct will lead to more severe disciplinary action,” Committee on Ethics Chairperson and 4Ps party-list Representative JC Abalos said.

Abalos also stated that if Barzaga failed to remove the social media posts within the 24-hour timeframe, he could face even heavier penalties.

To recall, members of the National Unity Party (NUP), including chairperson and Antipolo City 1st District Representative Ronaldo Puno, filed an ethics complaint against Barzaga, citing violations of the conduct expected from House members.
