The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has assured potential donors that its Kaagapay Donations Portal provides a safe space for sending cash donations to victims of recent typhoons.
“You know, there is—to prevent our good doers, our good Samaritans, from being scammed—do you want to donate? Go to the DSWD webpage. You will see a link there called ‘Kaagapay Portal,’” DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said in Tagalog on Thursday.
According to the DSWD chief, the portal is designed to offer donors a simpler, more convenient way to extend their donations to local government units (LGUs), charitable groups, or social welfare and development agencies, including humanitarian response agencies and organizations engaged in disasters and emergencies.
“In the ‘Kaagapay Portal,’ the donation does not go to the DSWD, but it lists the accounts of the different local government units that are affected by disasters. The various accredited NGOs (non-government organizations) of the DSWD who are in the disaster field are also listed there,” he said.
Gatchalian assured that the online platform would prevent scams, since organizations that have access to it are those duly registered and licensed by the department.
He described the ‘Kaagapay Portal’ as “a safe environment, where the only people you transact with are local government units and NGOs accredited by the DSWD.”
“So, you can be sure that your help will go to the right beneficiaries,” Gatchalian pointed out.
The Kaagapay donations portal also prioritizes donor privacy and security through its anonymity option. Cash donations through the portal can be processed via Gcash, PayMaya, and LandBank.
