The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Tuesday the departure of former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan from the country.
“We confirm the earlier departure of former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan for the United States of America to accompany his wife for the latter’s medical procedure. Travel has been reported to be up until December 17, 2025,” justice spokesperson Polo Martinez said.
He explained that Bonoan has no legal prohibition to Bonoan’s constitutional right to travel at present.
In a separate statement, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Bonoan left the country on Tuesday afternoon for the US via Taiwan.
The former DPWH chief is covered by an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) issued by the DOJ.
As such, immigration officers verified with the DOJ the presence of a hold departure order or warrant of arrest against him. Bonoan was cleared to depart upon confirmation of the absence of any legal prohibition.
