The Makabayan Bloc in the House of Representatives urged the International Criminal Court to implement the arrest warrant on Senator Ronald dela Rosa and hold him liable for the deaths of drug suspects under the Duterte administration.
“We in the Makabayan bloc firmly assert that justice for the victims of the Duterte drug war must be achieved. Senator Ronald dela Rosa, as the chief implementor and author of Oplan Tokhang and Oplan Double Barrel, must be held accountable for the widespread killings and abuses committed during this campaign,” the group said in a statement on Sunday.
On Saturday, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla disclosed that sources informed him that the global tribunal finally released an arrest warrant for Dela Rosa.
“The masterminds and implementers of the bloody drug war should not remain free. The list of victims’ families who are seeking justice is long. Bato dela Rosa and all those involved must be held accountable,” ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio said.
“We likewise call for the immediate implementation of the ICC arrest warrant. There should be no compromise or special treatment from the Marcos administration for the Duterte camp. “The Senate should not be used as a shelter to avoid arrest. The Supreme Court should not obstruct the advancement of justice,” Kabataan party-list Rep. Renee Louise Co stressed.
Gabriela party-list Rep. Sarah Elago, for her part, said, “We encourage the people to prepare for collective action to call for justice. Let us continue to be vigilant and united to ensure accountability.”
The Makabayan bloc urged the Filipino people to stay vigilant and united in demanding justice for the victims.
“The ICC warrant must be enforced, and every attempt to shield those responsible from accountability must be opposed. Justice for the victims of the drug war, accountability for the perpetrators,” it said.
