Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez on Friday commended the Department of Tourism (DOT) for a three-part publication that promotes tourism and economic development in Mindanao and other Muslim-populated areas.
He said the DOT initiative “will bring about not only inclusivity, more understanding of Muslim culture, arts and halal culinary tradition but will give more income to the Muslim communities.”
“This is an affirmative action by our government through the DOT to bring our Muslim citizens to the mainstream, foster their economic growth through tourism after centuries of inherited disadvantages,” he said.
He said the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao “is the poorest region of the country and through this travelogue, its social and economic status will be enhanced.”
Rodriguez urged the DOT to send copies of the publication to foreign embassies in Metro Manila, and to Muslim organizations and tour agencies that promote travel and tourism in Mindanao.
The Muslim-Friendly Travelogue of the Philippines is a three-volume travel guide that showcases the beauty, diversity and inclusivity of the country through the lens of Muslim-friendly travel.
“It is a guide and a roadmap for welcoming the world with respect, warmth, and understanding,” according to Secretary Frasco.
“Through the travelogue, visitors will discover historic sites that celebrate our shared heritage, culinary experiences that celebrate our halal and Muslim-friendly offerings and destinations designed to promote comfort, safety and hospitality for all,” she said.
