Ahead of the expected influx of millions of passengers for All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Tuesday reminded transport companies to strictly comply with existing guidelines on maintaining cleanliness and passenger comfort in bus stations and terminals.
LTFRB chief Vigor Mendoza II has tasked all regional directors to strictly implement the guidelines in their areas of responsibility on November 1 and 2.
“We already have an existing guideline, what needs to be done is to ensure that this is strictly implemented and observed by transport terminals at all times to ensure passenger safety and convenience,” he said.
“Any violation of this guideline will be treated as a franchise violation,” Mendoza warned.
The LTFRB chief said they released a memorandum circular specifying the minimum requirements for the maintenance of bus terminals and transport stations.
These include sufficient roofing of vehicles to protect passengers from the heat and the rain; ramps for persons with disabilities (PWDs), and priority lanes for senior citizens, pregnant women and PWDs.
The same circular pointed out the need to have sufficient security that includes security guards and CCTVs, as well as access to clean and accessible restrooms for everybody, particularly for PWDs.
The penalty for violation of the circular is up to P5,000 per day and per violation.
“We will discuss with the terminal operators about the cleanliness of portalets (portable toilets), air ventilation and how to remove toilets with pay,” Mendoza said.
