President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed retired Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Jose Catral Mendoza as an ad interim member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), representing retired justices of the High Tribunal.
The appointment, dated October 14, grants Mendoza a term lasting until July 9, 2029, according to the official letter issued by Malacañang.
“By virtue hereof, you may qualify and perform the duties of the office,” the letter stated, directing Mendoza to furnish copies of his oath to the Office of the President and the Civil Service Commission.
The JBC is the constitutional body that screens and recommends appointees to the judiciary.
Mendoza, who served on the Supreme Court from 2010 to 2017, will represent retired magistrates in the council’s deliberations.
