Angelo King Foundation launches breakfast forum

The Angelo King Foundation Inc. (AKFI) on September 27 hosted its inaugural Power Session Breakfast Forum with the theme “Social Entrepreneurship: What It Takes to Start and Grow a Successful Social Enterprise.”

The quarterly forum highlights issues affecting communities while promoting AKFI’s advocacy for empowerment, poverty reduction, and sustainable development. It also serves as a venue for fellowship among trustees, partners, and beneficiaries.

Guest speaker Jay A. Acar, acting regional director of the Department of Trade and Industry–NCR, emphasized that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of the economy, employing 67 percent of the workforce. “It’s not just the profit. It’s the change we bring to society and the environment,” he said.

The event also featured social entrepreneur Zarah Juan, who shared her journey from humble beginnings to becoming a globally recognized designer and advocate of sustainable livelihoods. “My ‘why’ is to pay it forward,” she said, stressing that social enterprises must balance people, planet, and profitability.

AKFI, established in 1978, has supported nearly 500 projects nationwide across livelihood, education, health, culture, and socio-civic sectors. It continues to partner with schools and organizations to promote social entrepreneurship.
