FORMER Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson on Friday called on the government to look into flood control projects in Ilocos Norte, the stronghold of the Marcos political clan.
In a press conference at the Club Filipino in San Juan City, Singson said the newly formed Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) should prioritize investigating government projects in the Ilocos Region.
Singson also said several contractors linked to questionable projects have also secured contracts in the province.
Singson was quoted earlier assaying he was done supporting the Marcoses because President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. seemed to have “forgotten” about him.
Citing news previous reports, Singson said Discaya-led contractors St. Matthew, St. Gerrard, Alpha and Omega, and St. Timothy have big projects in Ilocos Norte.
Marcos has said that even relatives and allies, including former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, would not be spared in the investigation into corruption in infrastructure projects.
The controversy surrounding the flood control projects has led to protests across the Philippines, with several scheduled in Metro Manila on Sunday.
