Moonlighting illegal in Singapore – Embassy

The Philippine Embassy warned Filipinos living and working in Singapore against performing paid work outside of their primary employment, as this is illegal in the city-state and can lead to penalties.

In a social media post, the Embassy said, “Moonlighting in Singapore is an offense. Foreign workers can be fined up to SGD 20,000 and/or serve imprisonment of up to two (2) years. Foreign workers also risk the revocation of their passes and being barred from working in Singapore if found working illegally.”

Last week, local media reported that a 53-year-old Filipino maid in Singapore was fined S$13,000 for violating the conditions of her work pass.

She was caught engaging in part-time cleaning work, which is not permitted as her visa only allows her to work for her official employer.

The Embassy also emphasized that foreign students with a Student Pass may work if they meet certain requirements, such as being enrolled in an approved learning institution.

However, foreign exchange students participating in study modules in Singapore are not allowed to be employed.
