DFA assisting Pinoys hurt in NY bus crash

The Philippine Consulate General in New York is assisting three Filipino nationals hurt in a tourist bus crash that killed several passengers.

In a statement, the DFA said that all passengers aboard the ill-fated bus have been identified and their next-of-kin have been notified.

It maintained that no Filipinos were among the fatalities.

“A Consulate representative will meet them to ascertain their needs and ensure their welfare until their scheduled departure,” the statement reads.

The three Filipino tourists, based in Qatar, have been discharged from the hospital and are cleared to travel.

“The Filipinos, who reside in Qatar, were touring New York, the statement added.

On Friday, August 22, the New York Police Department confirmed the accident took place 25 miles east of Buffalo as the tourists returned to New York City after visiting Niagara Falls.

Reports show that 54 people were on the bus when the accident happened.

Passengers include Filipino, Indian, and Chinese nationals, US authorities said.
