Army strengthens typhoon response measures in Aurora

The Philippine Army’s 91st Infantry “Sinagtala” Battalion (91IB) has heightened its alert status for conducting rescue and relief operations in Aurora neighboring provinces in response to strong rains caused by a combination of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and Typhoon Bising.

In a statement Sunday, Lt. Col. Aries Quinto, commanding officer of the 91IB, said their Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Operations teams are on full standby.

Personnel from Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie Companies are prepared to support evacuation efforts, conduct rescue operations, provide medical assistance, and help distribute relief goods.

The battalion is also maintaining close coordination with local government units, disaster response councils, communities, and civilian volunteers to ensure an efficient and unified response.

“This is not just about being ready for storms, it’s about ensuring no one is left behind,” Quinto said.

“Our mission includes protecting lives, not just defending territory,” he added.

Aurora is prone to landslides and flooding during the rainy season, making military and civilian cooperation crucial.

Quinto urged residents to stay informed, follow evacuation orders, and avoid dangerous areas like rivers and mountain slopes.

“We appeal for public cooperation and community vigilance. Preparedness is our shared responsibility. We are here to support and protect,” the Army officer said.
