President Donald Trump said Tuesday the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel has taken effect, making good of his announcement earlier this morning (Monday evening in the US), with Iranian state broadcast media also confirming the development.
“THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
The US leader had earlier said the truce would be a phased 24-hour process beginning at around 04:00 GMT (12:00 p.m. in Manila) Tuesday, with Iran unilaterally halting all operations first. He said Israel would follow suit 12 hours later.
This developed even as Tel Aviv and Tehran continued exchanging missile threats. Israel reported at least four people were killed by Iranian missiles on Tuesday, but later on released an advisory that the public may soon start leaving the shelters.
“Following a situational assessment, the Home Front Command has announced that the requirement to remain near protected spaces throughout the country has been lifted,” the military said in a statement, after Trump announced a ceasefire between the two foes. —With Agence France Presse
