“Wait and see.’’
This was the curt reply of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) to the challenge of former presidential spokesman Harry Roque for the Philippine authorities to come and get him.
‘’The Department of Justice is just waiting for the formal notice regarding the asylum. If he’s saying, ‘Come and get me,’ the government responds with, ‘wait and see, ‘’ PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro said at a news briefing in Malacañang on Friday.
Roque described earlier as ‘fake news” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla’s pronouncement that Roque’s request for political asylum was denied by The Hague and was eyeing Germany as an option.
Roque countered that his trip to Germany was pre-planned, and he is now back in The Netherlands.
According to Remulla, the DOJ will wait for the results of Roque’s political asylum bid in Germany, adding they might no longer request his extradition if his passport were cancelled.
Castro, meanwhile, has said that the DOJ’s intelligence assets have been monitoring Roque’s moves overseas.
