Rep. Bernadette Herrera of the Bagong Henerasyon Party-list has filed House Resolution 2262, calling for a congressional investigation into the collapse of a concrete column at the MRT-7 construction site along West Avenue in Quezon City.

Herrera emphasized that the incident highlights serious safety lapses in the implementation and supervision of public infrastructure projects.

She urged Congress to determine the cause of the structural failure, identify any oversight issues, and propose measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The resolution also calls for stronger regulations on construction safety, structural audits, third-party assessments, and hazard notifications for communities near public works projects.

Herrera urged the appropriate House committee to conduct hearings, summon representatives from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), concerned local government officials, the project contractor, and affected residents.

According to reports cited in the resolution, the structure that collapsed on April 13 was a bored pile meant to support the elevated turnback guideway. While no injuries were reported, nearby electric cable wires were affected. The DOTr said the incident did not compromise the integrity of the entire MRT-7 system.
