The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) updated to magnitude 5 its reading of the earthquake that hit Matanao, Davao del Sur on Tuesday morning, adding they expect no damage to properties from this seismic event.
Phivolcs earlier measured the tremor at magnitude 5.4, initially anticipating damages. Based on its revised bulletin, the quake was located about five kilometers southwest of Matanao at a depth of 15 kilometers.
The state seismic agency acknowledged the impact of this tremor, listing the epicenter along with Digos City, Magsaysay and Bansalan, Davao del Sur at Intensity 5. Hagonoy, Santa Cruz and Davao City in the same province felt the quake at Intensity 4.
Other reported intensities and instrumental intensities were noted across the provinces of Cotabato, South Cotabato, Davao Occidental, Sultan Kudarat and Davao de Oro. While no damage is expected, Phivolcs said threats of aftershocks remain.
The tectonic tremor was strong enough to send office workers and students outside of workplaces and school buildings when the quake struck at 9:42 a.m.
