A magnitude-5.6 offshore earthquake struck Hernani, Eastern Samar at 8:50 p.m. Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed.
Phivolcs said the tremor was felt at Intensity 3 in Palo, Leyte and affected other neighboring provinces. It was tectonic in origin and 10 kilometers deep.
Other areas that registered instrumental intensities were Can-Avid, Eastern Samar; Carigara, Dulag and Abuyog, Leyte; Gandara, Samar at Intensity 3; Burauen and Kananga, Leyte; Villareal, Basey and Marabut, Samar at Intensity 2; Naval, Biliran; Isabel, Leyte; Mapanas, Northern Samar; and Sogod, Southern Leyte at Instensity 1.
No damage was expected, but aftershocks may occur, Phivolcs said in its initial bulletin.
