The remains of the late Liberal Party president and longtime Bicolano Rep. Edcel Lagman arrived Sunday in his hometown Albay, where he dedicated a significant part of his professional life in public service.
Lagman was given full military honors upon arrival at the Bicol International Airport in Legazpi City. His family and fellow Bicolanos were there to welcome the statesman home. He served the first district of Albay as legislator for a total of non-consecutive eight terms or 29 years.
Albay Acting Governor Glenda Ong Bongao earlier ordered the Philippine flag to be flown at half-mast across the province from February 3 to 7, 2025 across the province as a tribute to the seasoned Bicolano politician.
The House of Representatives led by Speaker Martin Romualdez also mourned the passing of the veteran lawmaker. “Our heartfelt prayers and sympathies to the family and loved ones that he has left behind,” an official statement read.
Lagman died of cardiac arrest on Thursday, January 30, according to his daughter Tabaco City Mayor Cielo Krisel Lagman-Luistro. Mount Carmel Shrine in New Manila, Quezon City will resume hosting public viewing for the departed legislator from February 5 to 9.
According to the Albay Provincial Information Office, Lagman will be buried at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina on February 10, 2025.
