The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) arrested 8 individuals in separate operations for selling registered SIM cards in violation of the SIM Registration Law.
In a report by the PNP-ACG on Thursday, a 41-year-old identified as Nonoy was arrested on January 13 along Pedro Gil Street, Paco, Manila for selling a registered SIM card for P800 and a verified e-wallet for P1,500. Four pieces of registered SIM cards were confiscated from the individual.
In an operation by the PNP-ACG field unit in Region 12, a 21-year-old mother was arrested for selling registered SIM cards in General Santos City on January 18. She was allegedly selling and advertising a verified e-wallet account that came with a SIM card for P2,000.
Two more suspects were arrested in Santa Cruz Manila on January 20 after one advertised a registered SIM card with a verified e-wallet account for P3,000. Two more were also arrested by the PNP-ACG Eastern and Quezon City Police Districts.
In a separate operation in Lahug, Cebu City on Jan. 15, two information technology (IT) students were caught selling 2,148 registered SIM cards for P800 each.
