Flooding in Davao City reaches critical level

Floodwaters due to heavy rains in Davao City reached critical level on Saturday evening, prompting local disaster officials to alert and evacuate residents in affected areas.

The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) warned of rising waters impacting low-lying communities near the rivers of Matina, Talomo and Lasang.

As of 7:00 p.m. January 4, the Matina River was placed in code red, Talomo River reached orange level, while Lasang River was under yellow alert.

All residents living near these bodies of water were highly encouraged to flee their homes until floodwaters recede, according to the CDRRMO.

Heavy rainfall warnings have been imposed on Davao City since Christmas Day due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
