Red rebel dies in clash with troops in Mindoro

A suspected communist guerilla was reported killed in a clash with Army troopers on Wednesday in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro.

Soldiers of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) were conducting routine patrol in Barangay Tinisan when they encountered a group of New People’s Army rebels, resulting in the firefight that left one female insurgent dead.

.A soldier was also reported wounded but was declared in stable condition while being given medical attention.

41 Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Erwin Glenn Romero said there were traces of blood at ground zero, indicating some of the rebels were wounded during the exchange of gunfire.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr, 2ID’s commander, attributed the success of the operations to residents who provided information about the whereabouts of rebels.
