Iloilo launches career guidance, voter education modules

Iloilo, Philippines — The provincial government of Iloilo introduced two educational modules under its Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (BES Probins) program to guide the youth in making better professional and electoral choices.

The Career Guidance Instructional Module (CGIM) is tailored for secondary students, equipping them with knowledge about career opportunities aligned with the country’s labor market needs.

The CGIM incorporates lessons on the National and Local Development Plans to ensure students understand the direction of government and economic development.

Meanwhile, the Voter’s Education Instructional Module (VEIM) is designed to cultivate an informed electorate capable of meaningful and intelligent participation in the democratic process.

The development of the modules was a collaborative effort between the Iloilo Schools Division of DepEd and the University of the Philippines Visayas.

Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. led the module launch, which was graced by Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara.

“We want the graduates of our public schools to be the professionals and skilled workers that our economy requires. This means guiding them to make informed career decisions and providing them with a deep understanding of the nation’s direction,” Defensor said in his address.

“This initiative aspires to contribute to the creation of an intelligent human resource pool and a smart electorate,” he added.

The CGIM is a localized adaptation of Republic Act 11206, or the Career Guidance and Counseling Act, which Defensor himself authored during his term as a congressman.

The governor also acknowledged the vital role played by Angara, who championed the counterpart Senate bill for the law.
