BuCor dismisses 20 erring officers from service

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) dismissed 20 people from service following the reforms initiated by incumbent Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang, Jr.

In a press release emailed Tuesday, the BuCor said the cases of the erring officers ranged from gross neglect of duty, serious misconduct and dishonesty, and insubordination.

BuCor’s data also showed it has suspended 70 officials, 10 were imposed fines and 19 were reprimanded.

The latest development is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its integrity and accountability under Catapang’s leadership to help restore the public trust and confidence.

BuCor said this is also in line with the administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” vision through the implementation of appropriate penalties depending on the severity of offenses committed.

“This is a clear message that we will not tolerate any misconduct and inefficiencies in our organization,” Catapang said.

“This bold stance not only serves to maintain discipline among current employees but also sets a precedent for future hires, emphasizing the importance of upholding the values of BuCor,” he added.

Meanwhile, the BuCor also reported that 95 personnel were promoted under Catapang’s watch.
