Las Piñas City Mayor April Aguilar led an urgent and coordinated relief effort, distributing aid to 65 families displaced by flooding at the Zapote Elementary School evacuation center.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Las Piñas city government reported that Aguilar was accompanied by District 1 Councilors Alelee Aguilar and Robert Cristobal, Congressman Mark Anthony Santos, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) Head Lowefe Romulo, and City Health Office Head Dr. Juliana Gonzalez.
The relief operation included the distribution of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) food packs and other essential supplies for the evacuees, it stated.
Additionally, City Health officers checked on the medical needs of the evacuees and provided antibiotic prophylaxis for the prevention of leptospirosis, in line with current health protocols for flood response.
This operation showcases the city government’s swift and unified response to flood victims, aiming to provide immediate relief to all those affected, it was explained.
Earlier, Aguilar met with Santos, District 1 Councilor Alelee Aguilar, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) Head Alejandro Dela Merced to discuss the logistics and coordination of the city’s relief operations amid the ongoing effects of the southwest monsoon.
Held at the City Command Center, the meeting focused on real-time updates from the field, ensuring the smooth flow of relief distribution, and strengthening coordination among frontline offices and barangay units.
The discussion also addressed the surge in evacuees, with the latest report confirming that 902 families or 2,212 individuals are now housed in 17 evacuation centers across the city.
