The Polytechnic University of the Philippines Open University System (PUPOUS) is celebrating its 36th founding anniversary this year, reaffirming its commitment to lifelong learning and accessible education.
Carrying the theme “ContinuOUSly Advancing Lifelong Learning through Flexible Pathways and Professional Excellence,” the milestone highlights the university system’s long-standing mission of providing quality education to learners from diverse backgrounds through flexible and alternative modes of study.

Established to reach working professionals, distance learners, and students who require non-traditional academic arrangements, PUPOUS has spent over three decades developing programs designed to adapt to changing educational and industry demands. Its flexible learning pathways allow students to pursue higher education while balancing work, family, and other responsibilities.
University officials said the anniversary celebration recognizes not only institutional milestones but also the achievements of students and educators who have contributed to the growth of the open university system.
Over the years, PUPOUS has produced graduates across various fields, many of whom have advanced in their professions while completing their studies through the university’s distance and blended learning platforms.

As it marks its 36th year, PUPOUS said it remains focused on strengthening academic programs, embracing innovation in learning delivery, and expanding opportunities for Filipinos seeking continuing education.
The anniversary serves as a reminder of the institution’s role in widening access to higher education and supporting professional development across generations of learners.
