The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Ilocos Region has opened new growth opportunities for 25 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Region 1 through its Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
The assessment serves as a key step for businesses seeking assistance through SETUP, DOST’s flagship initiative aimed at improving productivity, competitiveness, and innovation among local enterprises.
During the validation activities, DOST teams evaluated the firms’ production capacity, technology use, operational challenges, and areas for improvement. Recommended interventions included equipment upgrades, process improvements, technical consultancy, and workforce capability enhancement to help businesses expand and become more competitive.
The assessment also considered gender-responsive needs to support more inclusive and sustainable enterprise development.
Among the 25 firms assessed were four from La Union, seven from Pangasinan, four from Ilocos Sur, and 10 from Ilocos Norte.
Results from the assessment will determine whether the firms can proceed to the next stage of SETUP, which includes project proposal preparation and possible funding support through the Review and Technical Evaluation Committee.
Through the program, DOST Ilocos Region continues to support MSMEs by providing access to technology and technical assistance aimed at improving product quality, strengthening innovation, and creating more market opportunities for local businesses.
